So this is what I'm building, a carved deck for my electric longboard. I've had this idea in the back of my head for a while, but never got around to making it.

I also uploaded a small "making-of" video to youtube.

This is the starting point, my Yuneec E-Go longboard. It's nice enough, but I wanted something with a bit more flair. The original deck is 1/2 maple with no camber and a slight concave. For this build I forego the concave to easily carve the graphics.

I found this great fanart on deviantart and vectorized it for CNC v-carving. Art credit to marvelmania on deviantart: http://marvelmania.deviantart.com/art/Titan-Attack-378378127

I used 18mm baltic birch, slightly thicker than the original maple to account for the loss of strength from the carving and lack of concave.

After sanding off the top to 200 grit, I apply some spar urethane to seal it. The carving adds a nice dimensional look.

Can't forget about the grip tape. I was going to cut out all the grooves, but the grip tape was coarser than I thought and it was taking too long. I opted to just cut out the outline of the figure, the carving will have to make up for the lack of grip tape in those areas.

Came out pretty nice. Can't wait for the show to come back.
